A medium-sized steel fabrication workshop in South Africa recently completed a successful upgrade of its material handling system with the introduction of a 10 ton overhead crane. The buyer, located in an industrial zone of South Africa, focuses on processing structural components for construction and mining projects. Their daily workflow involves plate cutting, welding, assembly, and final loading, which requires stable and precise lifting equipment throughout the production line.
Before this project, the client in South Africa relied on older single-speed cranes that caused inefficiency and occasional positioning errors. After technical discussions and load analysis, they selected a European type 10 ton overhead crane with a 5 m lifting height and 5 m span, tailored to their workshop layout.
The solution delivered to South Africa featured frequency conversion control for hoist travel, crane travel, and hoisting speeds (2–20 m/min travel, 0.8–5.0 m/min lifting). This allowed smoother acceleration and deceleration, improving safety and accuracy. The client in South Africa reported that load positioning time was reduced significantly after commissioning the 10 ton overhead crane.
With a total power of 11.96 kW, IP54 protection class, and insulation grade F, the 10 ton overhead crane operates reliably in the dusty workshop environment common in many industrial areas of South Africa. The maximum wheel load of 60.7 kN and total weight of 3.12 t were also compatible with the existing runway structure, avoiding costly civil modifications.
After installation and operator training in South Africa, the customer confirmed improved productivity, safer handling of heavy components, and better workflow continuity.
